Women in Sport

QSAM recognises that women currently form the minority of participants in Melbourne's GLBT sporting clubs. We want to create an opportunity for women to try a range of sporting activities in a supportive, fun and non-competitive environment that promotes the social opportunities that sport provides.

With grant funding from the Asia Pacific Outgames Legacy Fund, the new group Sporty Dykes (see below) has been formed and co-ordinates a monthly activity calendar throughout the year.

Melbourne's queer sports groups are very female-friendly.  Find a sport that looks appealing and give it a try!

If you have any suggestions on how QSAM can encourage and support women's participation in sport, please contact us.

Sporty Dykes

Sporty Dykes is a very social group with emphasis on participation rather than competition.  We partner with other queer sporting groups so you can try your hand at a different activity each month.  If you're not sure which sport is for you, this is great way to try them all in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Activities are usually planned for Sundays or occasionally Saturdays.  Costs are kept very low (under $10) and many activities are free.

Dinner afterwards allows even more opportunity to mix with the active women of the community.

Our main point of contact is the Sporty Dykes Facebook group:

or seach for "Sporty Dykes".
